waiting for a response from another government department or agency

Post by kumash15 » Thu Mar 14, 2024 5:40 pm

Hello,

Applied for the skilled worker extension on 6th of Feb 2024 (standard). Received an email from home office atlas which states it may not be possible to make a decision within service standard in this instance.

"This is because we are waiting for a response from another government department or agency to verify some of the information or documents you have given to us"

I looked into forum topics and didn't seem to see this message to anyone before. Any insight into this will be much appreciated.

It is a standard procedure for information/ documentation to be verified. It normally just happens as part of the mandatory checks. It is rare for a specific letter to be issued just for this reason, the Home Office usually just pushes this into complex and gets on with the checks.
It could be something as simple as a slow response from a bank to an outright concern about a specific issue. I am afraid it is another wait and see thing.

As they haven't asked for any further information or requested for any further documents. I can just hope it to be part of the standard checks (could be DVLA or Tax status etc). All of my previous application have been quick and one of my colleagues who applied around the same time through same process received the BRP so it spooks me a little. Like you mentioned, wait and watch situation.

Nevertheless, thanks for taking time and responding to this. I appreciate it.

Best regards

Can I ask what work sector you are in?
Given it is an extension I doubt the issue is with you - more likely your sponsor.
If you are in private care sector it is under a high degree of scrutiny at the moment.
It is not uncommon for applications to be delayed pending further enquiries for the private care sector.
There are several hundred care sector sponsors on the concern list.

I work in IT. job on shortage occupation list and salary is above, let's say £40k. My employer may not be the issue as my colleague already got her visa. I am assuming it because if the issue indeed was with them she would have faced the issue too. Even my company solicitor are puzzled as they haven't seen such mail before and mentioned they can't do much unless 8 weeks time is over because it's still a possibility for them to make a decision before that. 29th march is the date given by HO. Although there is no record in UK or elsewhere which I "know" I should be worried but I am concerned if I don't know something about my record. No money dues to HMRC, always filled self-assessment on time (had late fine in 2018, didn't know much about it), no driving offences ever, no cautions or anything. That's why worried on what may have triggered the application to be "no straightforward" and came here looking for any sort of insight from the experts and gurus here.
