Want to call Parents to UK ( I am on HSMP)

Post by ashishashah » Fri Nov 17, 2006 5:24 am

Hello All,

I have recd. my HSMP and EC for UK..I am going to Uk with my wife..
I have my parents (Dad is 65. mom is 60 )..I am the only Child...

My Question is
1)Can i apply for Visa for my parents now (I am yet to go to UK , but i want to get visa for them now ,so that they need not go through formallities and paper work when i am not there??
2)I guess i have to fill up VAF2 form(settlement)..Am i correct??
My father is above 65, so he is qualified for that criteria..

3)For how long can i apply their visa??Is there a restriction on time duration they can stay in UK??

Would appreciate your help..

Thanks
Ashish

Ashish - unfortunately its not good news. If you had been living in UK for some time and had been British yourself (neither of which you are) you still would have had and incredibly steap hill to climb. Having a parent join you in the UK (from outside the EEA) is a complex a difficult process and very few people succeed in doing it. Just read the posts on this board

You have to proof:

You can support your parents comfortably in a house you live in or own
You completely support them financialy - you will have to prove you send them money.
They cannot have family in India - own a house or have means like pensions to support themselves.

Not being in the the UK I honestly don't now how you will do it. You can apply for them to join you for 6 months visitors visa. Again you will have to prove that they have enough money and a good reason to go back to India - bear in mind if you do that you will later have a very hard time to prove the opposite is true for them to come live with you permanently.

I'm not an expert but others on this board can probably confirm this.
