Hello,
I have read through the forum posts in claiming benefits, but I still have a question based on my scenario. I have recently finished my undergraduate degree and I want to claim job seekers allowance to assist my search for a job. I am living at home with my parents, my brother, and my girlfriend also lives with us. She is on a Tier 1 Post Study Work Visa, with no recourse to public funds. Does this mean that I am not allowed to claim JSA for myself as she would indirectly be benefiting from my job seekers. I don't want her status in the country to be affected. She is also looking for work at the moment but she knows she cannot claim job seekers herself. I believe I would have to put her down as a partner. Is this correct? I would only be able to claim the income based job seekers as I am 24 years old and have not contributed enough to get the contribution based. I have asked the citizens advice bureau and they could not answer my questions. I am thinking of writing to my MP to help clarify. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance.
