On the information you have given, I don't think you were deported from the UK. Apart from the letter refusing you an extension of stay, were you served with any other notices, such as IS151A - "Notice to an illegal entrant or person subject to administrative removal" or IS151B or D "Notice of removal directions"?. If so, you may have been recorded as an overstayer who was removed administratively from the UK. This may well be the case, as you say your passport was returned to you at the airport.
However, if they just refused you an extension without service of the enforcement papers described above and you then left the UK within a short time, then you have not been deported or removed from the UK. Even if you were served with a 151A, if you then promptly made arrangements to leave, you could argue on any future visa application that you made a voluntary departure at your own expense, you were not removed.
The stamp in your passport with the line through it signals that you made an application which was refused, nothing more.
