What is best option for partner to live here?

Post by Rone » Fri Aug 13, 2010 12:24 pm

Please help. I'm a British citizen and 6 months ago developed a relationship with a school friend from the Caribbean, our families know each other and have same circle of friends. We have planned that he comes to visit in the next couple of months, however we are so in love that we are discussing marriage. We are genuine and envisage that we wont want to be apart. What can we do? Am I right in thinkin that if he comes on a visitor visa he will have to go back within 6months? If he came on a fiance visa, then should we decide to marry he can stay? How straightforward is this. Please advise all that you can. Thnks.

Very straight forward. Apply for a fiance visa for him if you meet all the financial and accommodation criteria.

Have you met in person before? If not, then he doesn't qualify for the fiance visa.

Thank you for that. No we've not met as yet so best we do that first.

Yeah and don't forget to take pictures. This will satisfy the "have met" requirement.

That's fine. Most people do it that way.

How can you not have met if your were schoolfriends?

What I mean is we haven't met since. So since we have struck up a relationship we haven't seen each other in person. Would that help us?
