What evidence to produce for English Proficency.

Post by sjgul » Tue Nov 22, 2005 4:10 am

Dear Friends,

The Question in HSMP Form is

Do you speak English? Please tick one

Please provide evidence (including relevant qualifications) of proficiency in English.

What sort of evidence we need to show for this. Is it mandatory to show IELTS / TOEFL? Giving the statement that the Education medium (for Bachelors / Masters) was in English will not fulfill the purpose ( if it will , what sort of evidence required for this).

regds,
sjgul.

Its not mandatory to show IELTS/TOEFL scores as evidence for English proficiency. If you have taken or you are planning to take the test, then well and good - you can use that

Why wouldnt it be enough to fulfill the purpose? Do you know of anyone who has had a problem with his/her application for making such a statement?

I said in my cover letter that the meduim of instruction for my degree is English and I also stated that English was also the spoken language in office. I also asked my employer at the time of the application to confirm my "english proficiency" in the experience letter. I didnt have any problems getting the approval.

If you are going to use IELTS/TOEFL scores, is there a time limit for the test ? For example, do they accept IELTS/TOEFL score from 5 years ago ?
Also, if you have been working in UK, on the English proficiency section, do I need to submit reference letter from my UK employer ? Or, is it enough to submit the reference letter for the past 12 months earning, and the HSMP can relate this to the English proficiency section also ?
Thanks.

As such, the IELTS result has 2yr validity period.

You should be getting a reference letter from your current employer anyway for the work experience. Your english proficiency can be mentioned in that letter itself.

-English proficiency section
-past 12 months earning
-work experience ?
