What to do if my passport with EC lost in UK?

Post by dtytsoi » Tue Jun 22, 2004 8:12 pm

My wife and I arrive UK under HSMP for 6 weeks - everything seems to be fine except when we try to exchange our driving licences with DVLA. They lost my wife's passport by post - they said they will try to find it with Royal Mail but it is nearly hopeless it can be found.

So my question is - if we get a new passport from Chinese embassy in UK (we are Chinese) - where can she get back her EC? Which part of Home Office should we contact for this?

We really need suggestion.

dtytsoi,

Just get a new PPT and go to HO - They will then put in your Visa
Where there is a will there is a way.

Hi Chess,

Any idea of which part of the Home Office - HSMP/Other Office? I try to phone the work permits general enquiry and it is engaged the whole morning.

dty,

Once you get your new ppt - physically go to HO in Croydon and request them to put a visa in your new ppt. They will have all your HSMP details/EC on their database
Where there is a will there is a way.

Do I need to book an appointment or fill in any form in advance? Besides, what documents I need to bring to Home Office?

Although I don't think it is a good idea to send application by post, we are living in sheffield and Croydon is quite far away. Can we apply by post or any other place?

Thanks for advice and suggestions in advance.

dtytsoi,

1. Get a new ppt for your wife - I presume this requires a police report of the loss as well as a statutory declaration before a solicitor. Ask for two copies of each - one for the embassy the other for the Home Office.

2. Fill out form FLR (O) and either post it to the cannock address (GBP 150) or go in person to a Public Enquiry Office (GBP 250) - the nearest to you seems to be Liverpool with Birmingham also an option.

3. Include in the FLR (O):

i) your ppt with HSMP EC.

ii) your wife's new ppt.

iii) ppt photos of your wife

iv) marriage certificate/ licence

v) copy of police report and statutory declaration of loss of your wife's ppt.

vi) copies of your wife's old ppt if any are available - biodata page and HSMP EC page should suffice.

vii) cover letter explaining loss and requesting for HSMP LTR endorsment to be issued on new ppt.

viii) bank statements and tenancy agreement to show that you are able to maintain and accomodate yourselves without recourse to public funds. This is not crucial as ECO in HSMP EC issuance considered it - however no harm in enclosing such to save requests for it.

The Home Office may refer to the British Embassy in Beijing or country where you obtained the HSMP EC for verification. In this case they may not be able to deal with your case on the same day. If not done on the day the new endorsment should be done within 4-6 weeks.

good luck

dtytsoi,

After seeing your posting i am also worried as i have applied for DVLA 3 weeks before and still no reply from them. Any one could tell me, how long recently takes for issuing Provisional licence? Whether passport and licence will come under separate post or same one?

It seems new comers really struggle a lot with all these stuffs apart from Job hunting.

Regards,
