When to apply child of abode and spouse visa

Post by hamakhaa » Tue Dec 04, 2018 9:06 pm

Hello Everyone,
I am a british citizen, my wife and my new born son is in Pakistan. Due to spouse visa's financial requirements, I will apply for her visa in April. This is because I have returned to UK and started job couple of months ago and waiting for my 6 months to complete (for payslip).

Wondering when should I apply for my son's certificate of entitlement i.e. before my wife's visa or together at the same time? If I apply before my wife's visa is that going to be alright? Is that going to impact applications in any way?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Hammad.

Assuming that you are a British citizen otherwise than by descent (i.e. that you were either born in the UK or were naturalised before the birth of the child), you can apply for the child's CoE-RoA at any time. The child is a British citizen by descent and the CoE-RoA application is independent of the mother's application.

If you are Pakistani, and you have time, it may make more sense for you to apply for the child's British passport rather than a CoE-RoA.

Thanks secret.simon for your reply.

Yes, I am dual national i.e. Pakistani and British. I was considering British passport as well but seems like it takes more time and I don't want to be in a situation where British passport takes 8-10 months and therefore my wife and son won't be able to travel until passport is ready.

I know the fees for COE-ROA is a lot more than the passport fees but I wanted to make sure that they both are here as soon as possible therefore considering COE-ROA.

Any further suggestions would help. Thanks.

Hammad.

The other implication I was thinking is about the one month travel validity for the spouse visa.

What if I apply for british passport instead of ceo-roa and the british passport gets ready even after my spouse visa one month travel validity. This is also the reason I am considering COE-ROA application.

Any thoughts please?
