when can my wife apply for citizenship

Post by eyesonly » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:41 pm

My application for naturalisation has finally been approved and i am planning to attend the ceremony in feb!

I understand that from the date of the ceremony, I will be officially a british citizen. Does that mean that I can apply for my wife's citizenship on the same date? (based on she being married to a british citizen and 3 years of residency in uk with 1 year of ILR)

or do we need to wait until I actually receive my british passport (which will delay her application by another month or so)

I have tried searching the forums but couldnt see any similar discussions. I will appreciate advise from readers.

You don't have to wait until you have a British passport.

JAJ, many thanks for your clarification. I still have a question though - I have read that NCS will ask for my british passport as well so that its copy can be attached to my wife's application. Do you think just the naturalisation certificate will be acceptable by them and it will not delay the application?

Thanks again..

just saw the following in the UKBA website:

Documents required for applications made on the basis of marriage or civil partnership to a British citizen

You should provide:

* your partner's passport or birth certificate; and
* your marriage or civil partnership certificate.

what do you think JAJ?
