When’s it safe to apply for naturalisation? SJP conviction for mobile phone use.

Post by hknsam » Tue Nov 04, 2025 10:02 pm

In late April, I was stopped by the police at a red light while holding my phone. I was trying to fix a glitch with Apple CarPlay at the time. As a result, I received two penalties, one for not wearing a seatbelt and another for using a mobile phone while driving.

I received the seatbelt penalty notice, but I didn’t get the mobile phone one in time because I was in the process of moving. Consequently, the case went to court. Although I found out a bit late, I was still able to submit a plea through the Single Justice Procedure (SJP). The case was decided in late October, and I received 6 penalty points on my driving licence.

Offence date: Late April '25

Conviction date: Late October '25

I don’t have any other offences or penalties. Do you think it’s advisable to apply for naturalisation now, or would it be better to wait a bit longer? The latest I can wait is summer 2026.

So many immigrant advisors are saying that it's less likely to get approval unless I wait 3-5 years.
