Anu,

Dont panick yet,

Migrants from Asia and Africa will always be a 'step' ahead of any sort of immigration rule aimed at deterring them to migrate to the West!!!.

The UK needs skilled immigrants therefore Workpermits will continue...

...I can see a situation were migrants from Eastern Europe will be walking on streets in the UK begging for money purely because most of them will not have the language skills and 'work/professional' skills to secure the jobs they would like to do...

This will be reminiscent of the Kosovan immigrants (assylum seekers) - despite their being granted Assylum sattus, some are always by traffic signals trying to wash windscreens to make ends meet. Even the 'car wash' places are all unfortunately full of Kosovans.

It is the 'work ethic' thing that might be the down fall of many...

Yes, Ugandan Asians came to the UK after Amin (RIP) kicked them out of Uganda with 'pennies' but they are now millionaires - and this trend will continue.

From my personal observations Asians will always help out each other and when the crunch comes I can see Keith Vaz (MP for Leicester) making all sorts of noises if the workpermit scheme is curtailed to the expense of bonafide skilled migrants

Aluta Continua

Hmmmm....
On browsing a little more I stumbled across this link too.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3661261.stm
Where Mr.Blair talks of slashing low skilled work permits.

I think the link earlier from ET just bloated this up a bit. :)

But overall a very unstable immigration situation, don't you think ?

I also think that the HSMP will also get affected BIG time, atleast in terms
of number of approvals and time taken for the same.

Cheers.

Dont worry about the influx from the EU.
Yes it will affect areas like Civil Engineering and agriculture.
It will take at least 4 years before it touches IT sector which is already depressed.

You only need to visit various jobsite to see IT and engineering jobs advertised as far as Poland, czech rep and romania. Now I say the expansion is very good indeed.

Hope it helps or I am off topic. If so appologies.

Cheers
