Hi All
Some of you may remember a couple of posts from me some time ago. I am a resident of N.Ireland so have dual citizenship. I hold both an Irish and British passport. I will be marrying in August in Malaysia to a Malay national and require a letter from ( I'm not sure ) my country to marry in Malaysia that states I'm a bachelor and my county does not object to me marrying in Malaysia.I'm not sure where and how I get this letter; whether its the home office, Britsh consulate or even an Irish office. My Fianceee will ber applying for a UK visa once we marry. I have been trvaeling all my time to Malaysia with an Irish passprt if this makes anything more complicated ! Any ideas who I see or where I go for this letter ? Any pointers appreciated !

You need a certificate of no impediment. You can get this at your local registry office but you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for it.

Here is some information about getting married in Malaysia
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Thanks Busubi, you were spot on. Being in N.Ireland and having been travelling with an Irish Passport the Registry Office was able to point me in the correct direction-The Office of Foreign Affairs. Apparently there are some laws and changes happening regarding this In N.Ireland....always that little bit more complicated here !
Thanks all for the info

Sorry...the department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland ! I Was confused by this. Being a resident of N.Ireland but because of travelling on an Irish Passort this is the option I had to take. IF I had been travelling on my British passport things would have been different.
