WHV running out

This is my first post and I'm probably asking a stupid question but I'm quite new to all this immigration stuff.

My boyfriend is from NZ on a two year working holiday visa. The visa ends on March 10th 2006. Can someone tell me if he has to leave by this date, on this date or can he stay longer just as a visitor without a visa?

He's currently doing temping work and plans to go travelling around Europe after his visa runs out. I'm planning to go with him and then I'll apply for a working holiday visa for NZ to go back with him. Will he be allowed back in the UK after travelling around Europe?

I really need to know what happens when so that I can plan when to give my notice in at work etc.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

He must either apply for an extension of stay in the UK as a visitor or depart the UK before the WHV expires. IMHO the chances of an extension as a visitor are minimal - he has had 2 years to visit the UK and work incidental to such.

Entry is subject to the immigration officer being satisfied he is a bonafide visitor who will not seek to remain in the UK for more than 6 months and crucially will not breach conditions especially that pertaining to employment. Again IMHO his chances are slim unless he has been away for at least 12 months. Your b/f is a classic case for refusal - he has no ties to his home country, has spent some time in the UK labour market and will be returning with his UK partner...would you let him in?

Perhaps it is best to apply for your NZ WHV prior to the expiry of his WHV. Ask the Kiwis to postpone it for the max period. Spend the time between his WHV expiry and your WHV commencment in Europe.

Further to my question last year, I have some more queries.

As I have said above, my boyfriend's WHV runs out on March 10th. We want to book a European tour for March 19th. This is the earliest date that the tour runs. In effect, he will be overstaying for nine days. Will this cause a major problem when at customs as part of the tour leaving from Dover?

We would want to do the tour earlier but unfortunately we can't. This isn't our fault. It's just that the tour operator do not do a tour earlier than that.

We will be buying flights from the UK to NZ before the tour commences so that when we come back to UK in early April, he has evidence that he will not be staying in the UK illegally and is only going to be here to pack items to take back home. I have been advised by an immigration advice company that this will be fine as he has evidence that he is staying as a visitor for a couple of weeks.

What concerns me the most is the overstaying problem. Please can someone advise me of what to do?
