wife visa

Hi,

Some time ago I wrote about my Colombian soon-to-be wife. I went to Argentina and we got married the last monday. Yesterday we went to the local embassy and applied for her visa (I'm in UK with a work permit and leave to remain until 2011). We brought the following papers:

- My work permit letter from the Home office
- My bank statement to show my address
- Photocopies of my passport and hers, and the other papers
- Photo

They said we could pick her passport on friday unless they call us. Unfortunately they called yesterday and now we have an appointment for tomorrow.
I'm a bit worried they will refuse her visa.
So my questions are, what's the purpose of the interview? Should I be worried? Any useful tips for the interview? Anything else?

The following will specifically apply in your case:

He or she must also show that:

you are legally married to each other or have registered a civil partnership;
*
you are going to live together permanently as man and wife, or as civil partners;
*
you have met each other;
*
you can support yourselves and any dependants without help from public funds;
*
you have adequate accommodation where you and your dependants can live without help from public funds; and
*
he or she is not under 18

From what your post indicates, I wonder if perhaps you haven't adequately satisfied the above requirements...especially your ability to support yourselves, and your ability to provide adequate accomodation for yourself and your new wife. Also....you need to prove she's now your wife!

To satisfy these requirements, you will probably need to supply bank statements/payslips from the last 6 months or so...showing you have a regular income and/or savings. You need to prove that your new wife will not need to resort to benefits.

You will probably also need to show proof of adequate accomodation in the form of mortgage papers (if you own a property), or a rental agreement with written permission from the landlord for your wife to live with you in the property (if you rent). You are allowed to live in shared housing, but the two of you must have a room to yourself.

As for proof she's your wife - you will need your marriage certificate.

I can't think of anything else just now...perhaps someone else can think of something I missed?

Thanks!

I have forgotten to mention in my previous post that I have provided the marriage certificate and the work permit included my salary. When I went to the embassy I also offered my payslips, bank statements and the flight tickets (already bought them) but the person who received all the paperwork said it was not necessary.
The only thing that perhaps I'm missing is the letter from the landlord but honestly didn't think it was important.
I'll bring all the papers tomorrow again, just in case.
