wifes UK visa application

Post by kaleel86 » Fri Jun 29, 2007 8:38 pm

Hi, Just wanted to know if anyone knows how long it should take for a UK visa application to be processed in barbados?

My wife has been in the UK for 5 years and we have been married for a few months now. Due to a mis-understanding of what the CoA does and the time period she needed to apply in before her work permit runs out, we ended up getting refused for her to stay in the UK and were told to re-apply from outside the UK.

She is vincentian but the the high comission is in barbados which is where we both are now. I came with her to re-apply as we were told it would speed the process up if we handed all the documentation in person rather than by courier. however when we got to the high commission office we were told that only barbadian nationals can hand it in in person (never said that on the website however). We were also told that it can take up to twelve weeks however my brother did the same thing for his wife who is from the USA and it took 1 day.

The reason im in a hurry to get this done is because my wife is pregnant and i've been here for 3 weeks so far, and only have a little time left to be off work but dont want to leave my wife here as she would be in a bad state by herself and pregnant. I've been told not to call them but they will call me however they didn't give us a chance to mention this technicality of my wife being pregnant and me needing to be back in work. So i want to know wether anybody here knows if our scenario gives us the right to ask for the process to be accelerated some what?

Sorry for the long post, just thought the detail would help explain the situation.

Thanks in advance! :)

Your wife was in the UK for five years; on what type/s of visa/s? This is really important, so please do answer!! And, do you mean she overstayed on her WP when it expired? For how long was she on the WP?

I guess the 'up tp twelve weeks' might be when it is the busy season, or depending on how much evidence is submitted. If people don't submit all the required evidence, or at least enough evidence, then they might contact them and ask for more. So getting all the required documentation is very important if you want it done quickly. As your brother's case shows, it can be done much sooner as long as ALL and enough of the documentation and application forms are done correctly (and if there isn't normally a huge number of applicants...but lucky for you, you're in Barbados rather than Pakistan  ).

How many months gone is your wife?

Hi Sakura,

She was on a student visa for almost 5 years (sorry it wasnt a work visa :? ). Her student visa expried in late december however we were mis-informed that we had up until march to get married ( 3 months) and so stayed in the UK, got married, then applied to immigration for a spouse visa. That got rejected because she overstayed and they said she should re-apply from outside the country. (was a very confusing and worrying time period for us both but thats in the past now)

Thing is, we gave the people at the high commision all the documentation they required and even more but we havent had any response back from them as of yet. Yeh it is nice in barbados but beleive me, when your here anxiously waiting on a visa.... its not so fun. I'm currently here with my wife and we've been here for 3 weeks. It's only because she's pregnant that im really worried about leaving her next week as she has no family here in barbados and her family in st'vincent have all migrated out to other countries. :?

thanks for responding too :)
