Will I lose ILR if based overseas due to UK partner's job?

Hi, I have ILR by civil partnership to my UK partner. We have moved overseas due to my partner's work. It is a long-term contract. I understand that one may lose ILR if away from the UK for two years and I am worried I will lose my ILR when it is time to return with my UK partner.

Has anyone experienced this? Will I lose my ILR and have to re-apply? Or is there a way to maintain my ILR throughout my partner's overseas employment contract?

If you remain outside the U.K. for more than 2 years you would be required to apply to return under a returning resident visa. Are there ways of overcoming this, yes however there are risks attached for the less ethical methods. I will leave others to cover those methods.

ILR is granted to people who are settled in the UK and want to live here on a permanent basis. People with ILR are readmitted to the UK as returning residents. ICO at the border has to ensure you qualify as a returning resident (your intentions are to live here on a permanent basis).
If you have an absence of more than 2 years from the UK, ILR status will be automatically lost. Short visits may not maintain the ILR status. UKVI might simply revoke your ILR if it looks like you are not a returning resident. Short visits suggest that you are not a resident here. I suggest to obtain British citizenship if you do not want to risk your ILR
