Work Permit and Freelance Jobs.

Post by principium » Mon Jan 02, 2006 2:22 am

Hello guys,

I have such a question:

If you are on a work permit visa, can you engage in an enterprenerial activity without creating a business entitity? For example, can you become a freelance translator, agent etc.

The reason why I am asking this is bbecause I know that on a work permit visa one cannot set up his own business. Well, I am not setting it up, either, but, on the other hand, it is a business as it provides me with a revenue.

So, is the freelance job allowed when you are on a work permit?

when you say you work freelance, how do you pay your national insurance and tax? do they see you as a business/self employed? or as an employee?
i think the work permit in essence is saying you can be an employee not self employed

see this link http://www.ivillage.co.uk/workcareer/ex ... 70,00.html , basically freelancing is being self employed ie running your own business, offering services to others. I dont think the work permit allows you to do that

Sreeni, thanks for your reply. I have come to the same conclusions.
