Work permit and HSMP simultaneously

Hi,

Is it possible for an employer to apply for a work-permit while the HSMP is already under consideration? I am currently interviewing with a prospective employer who can sponsor a work-permit for me, however, I have already applied for the HSMP which is currently in queue.
While I have taken care to supply relevant evidences, there is always room for a negative outcome due to the nature of subjective assesment of the case-worker. An urgent request treatment may help here, but is anyone aware of how fast will they process the application?
