Work permit - how far in advance can I apply for it?

Work permit - how far in advance can I apply for it?

Hi,

My permit expires in 6 months. Can I apply for renewal 6 months in advance. I know that it takes about 90 days to process so I wouldn't want any break in the employment. Anyone has link to official information on this? I couldn't find any.

Also what would I put in "Current immigration status" on the I-765 if I am currently adjusting my status thru US spouse? (My former status was H1)
