work Permit to Marriage visa

Post by xiaor » Thu Dec 20, 2007 2:28 pm

Hi,

I am currently on a work permit visa which expires next August. Just to clarify my wrk permit was for three years. I have been married to a UK citizen for 2 and half years. We got married in the US then moved to UK in 2005. Can I use the Flr(M) form to extend my stay in the UK? We don't want to stay here forever, but just need to extend my visa. If I get this extension, would it affect me visiting the UK after we have made our move to New zealand?

thanks
-Una

You might as well apply for FLR(M), as even if you were only staying for a couple of months and not intending to work, you would still have to pay the same 395quid for an extension as a visitor as far as I can see.
Only one small consideration about returning for visits from NZ. If you came back while the FLR was still extant, and if you are a visa national, and you were not travelling with your spouse, you might get held up on arrival while they think about it.
If you don't need a visa to visit, then I doubt it would matter.

Off topic, the new BIA website isn't as user friendly as they say it is. Took me a while to find what the fees are. They should have a direct link to info like that.

Thanks for all your help. Yeah, exactly since I have to spend the money, may as well get a Flr(M) which is more flexible etc.

Merry christmas.
