Work permit to Permit free training visa

My friend is switching from work permit to permit free training visa. The current job (with the work permit) will end on 3 August, 2004, and the new job (with the permit free training) will start on 4 August, 2004. His work permit will expire in the middle of August, 2004. He is planning to apply for the permit free training visa in person next week.

If he is granted the permit free training starting next week, will he still be able to work on his current job until 3 August, 2004 ? (because he will then be on a permit free training instead of the work permit visa) ?
