Work Permit & Tier 1 G Simultaneously Valid

Post by malepiscean » Sat Jan 15, 2011 9:12 am

Hi everyone,
I got my T1G in Sep 2010, valid until Sep 2012. I've been in UK since Feb 2007 on a company work permit. When I got T1G the case officer in PEO didn't cancel my work permit (I mean he didn't stamp or write anything on the WP vignette on my passport). He wan't very clear but more or less meant to say that "let this WP expire in its due course".
My WP expires on 31-Jan-2011. Just wanted to clarify, that I dont have to do anything about it right? As mentioned before, I have a T1G valid until Sep 12 and I still work for the same company and haven't informed them that I have switched Visas.
Sorry if the answer is too obvious, just needed to be re-assured I guess.
Thanks.

You changed your status from WP to Tier 1 (General) when you switched.

Yes, but that means I dont have to do anything about the WP right? I was slightly worried about the following:

1) Not having informed my company (whom I still work with)

2) WP not being explicitly cancelled, could it be a mistake?

What ever is your latest vignette stamp will override anything else by default . they dont need to be explicitly cancelled ..

Since you have a TIER1 stamp being latest . That is it . your are on T1 and not on work permit ....

Now when your work permit is expiring , your company will ask your passport for extension ..Dont give them because u will become WP holder then if they get it stamped .. tell them u no longer need a wp ..
