Work Permits in the UK

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can advise me in any way. My boyfriend has just come to the UK on a visitor's visa from Greece. He has lived there from the age of about 7 but was born in Northern Iperos (now owned by Albania). His application for a Greek (and therefore EU) passport is set to take a couple of months so we are trying to get him work via a work permit in the meantime.

All his work experience has been in bars/restaurants/hotels up to the level of supervisor.

What do you think his hopes are of getting an employer to apply for a work permit for him?

hi there..
i have registered with several recruitment agency and they want me to be in the UK for registration before they can arrange for interviews for me.
i am positive they cannot guarantee me a job, but do you think it is wise for me to go there just to finish the registration and meeting them in person?

btw, im a secretary and have been working for the last 10 years and now in kuala lumpur.

First of all, what is your main intention in going to the UK? are you be moving into the Uk and make the Uk your new home?

The reason I've asked is that what the recruitment agencies told is quite true. Almost all the time, you need to be in the UK in order for them to arrange interviews with prospective clients.

BUT as regards to the registration it may not TRUE at all times. based on my experience, I've been registered with several big recruitment agencies ven when I was not yet in the UK.

Interviews often than not are done face to face and you've got be there in your prospective employer's office

It is very seldom that interviews are done over the phone (I had 1-2 telcon interviews and later on progressed to face to face).

if i just want to work in the UK, does it gives me bigger chances or i really have to make UK as my new home? truth is, i would like to spend few years working and if my future is really in the UK, i wouldn't mind staying there permanently.

by the tone of your words, it looks like i have to spend few months there before getting real interviews?

based from my personal experience yes... Most of the job posting are carried thru recruitment agencies...it is very rare that it is a direct hire.

Also be wary of non-existing job openings that are being posted in job ad boards in the net or dailies. Some are just for fishing "better qualified" applicants in the recruiter's point of view. Some do call you and mention that they will submit/forward your apllication to the client but later you will find out that they did not 9for some reason or another I do not know)...

It is up to the individual to be very vigilant in following up applications in the recruiters job desk... in other words... be a pain in the neck some times.

By the way, it may not be true to some areas in the job industry...but who knows... I'm in the oil and gas industry by the way.
