UK IT workers in demand

Demand for IT workers in the UK continues to rise according to the latest figures from recruitment outfit CWJobs.co.uk.

The number of permanent jobs on offer between March and June (Q2) rose 2.5 per cent compared to the previous three months although this rate of growth has slowed since last year.

IT contractors are also in demand, with the CWJobs/SSL quarterly IT skills index reporting a 5.6 per cent spike in vacancies during Q2, marking the tenth consecutive quarter that the total number of IT contractor jobs on offer in the UK has risen.

"The industry witnessed a very cautious start to 2005 yet, in general, the results demonstrate an increase in confidence throughout most sectors during the second quarter," said Richard Nott, commercial director at CWJobs.co.uk.

"This is despite the continuing rise of outsourcing in IT operations and development and a slowdown in the finance sector, which is traditionally a very popular source for recruitment." ®
