wrong choice of referee for child naturalisation

Post by simplicity79 » Sat Dec 23, 2023 5:54 pm

Hi All

I have already submitted the application for naturalisation and did not realise that one of the referee for child should be a professional who has engaged with the child in a professional capacity such as a teacher, health visitor. However, the referee is a GP but is one of my colleagues but not involved in my daughter's care.

I have applied with my husband and one child, me as the main applicant and now worried do we need to cancel all the applications or is it possible to cancel only one. And also what will be the impact of this cancellation on the new application.

We have not attended our appointment for finger prints yet so please advise what is the best way forward.

Thanks

I think you should be able to explain this in a cover letter specifying it is a family friend. GPs are generally not accepted as referees for adults, but as you know them personally and not as your own GP it should be fine. Upload the cover letter to UKVCAS and submit it with the rest of the documents.

Thank you for replying.

We have mentioned on the application form that he is mother's colleague but now the problem is that none of the referees are knowing her in their professional capacity which is the requirement of referee for the child. So it does not satisfy the criteria of having one referee knowing her in professional capacity. I am now worried and that is why want to cancel and now also concerned that cancelling one application is possible or not as all of us have applied together from one account.

Thanks and kind regards

It is notoriously difficult to find a referee that knows a child in professional capacity and UKVI is aware of this, especially if the child is very young.
