Hi,
I am a British Citizen by birth and wanted to check if I can apply for british passport for my son who is 5 years old. I am based out of UAE and I have recently received my first time British passport. My wife is an Indian and holds an Indian passport.

Regards,
P

If you are a British Citizen by birth and prove it then your son should be born British. I am not sure about the path to follow when you are out of UK but in UK you simply apply for the passport for the boy.

Maybe consulate may advice better.

Child would be British by descent based on you being British otherwise than by descent. If the child is outside the UK apply for his British passport or if he has a passport then perhaps a certificate of entitlement if you need to travel more urgent.

Thanks a lot!

You should be aware that as India doesn't allow dual nationality, by applying for a British passport, you effectively renounce his Indian citizenship.

Perhaps a certificate of entitlement may be better then.

I am planning to apply for my son's First time British Passport. Currently he holds an Indian Passport.
I am British by birth(born before 1983 in UK). But I took my British Passport on 2013. My son was born on 2008 and at that time I had Indian Nationality. Would this impact his application for British Passport? Is he eligibile for British Passport by Descent despite the fact that I held Indian Nationality at the time of his birth.

Rgds,
Prats

A British passport does not confer British citizenship. If you held British citizenship (i.e. Did not renounce or lose British citizenship after automatic acquisition at birth) when your child was born, then he should be okay.

Father British by Birth and Son's British Passport

Hi All,
I am British by birth and reside in UAE. Recently I applied for my son's British passport as he is British by descent. My son was born in India. The application process is taking way too long and still in progress for last 4-5 months. There has been multiple back-forth happening between myself and HM's office on multitude of documents that has been asked for this request. Now the process has been sent to India for overseas verification and documents like pre-natal records of my son are being asked for. Is this normal and usual process? Should I just wait on this or is there any way to expedite this process?

Can somebody share if they had similar experience ?

Thanks!
