Should I apply as a single or married person?

Hello all,
This is my first post here, so a short introduction.
I'm Nat, US Citizen, living in Britain since 1998, ILR since 1999. Finally getting around to applying for citizenship.

I am currently married to a British Citizen, but the relationship is coming to an end. My question is, should I apply as a spouse or on the basis of my own residency and indefinite leave status?
As far as I can see, it might be better to apply on my own status. If the processing time takes up to 6 months, I might have already filed for divorce, in which case I would have to notify the authorities, and that might change the status of my application. But- I wonder if applying on my own status would raise any red flags, would they question why I'm not applying as a spouse?

Any input will be appreciated! Thanks very much.

Apply as a single person. In the sections where they ask for your spouse's details, you shouldstill provide correct details as long as you are legally married.

It doesn't really makes a difference. If your wife is happy to support your application (which basically means allowing you to photocopy her pasport), apply as a spouse. Applications normally take 2 months. It might be slightly longer now because of the rush of applicants in October before the new English requirement kicks in but I would imagine you will be Brtish before divorced.
