I recently applied for citizenship having been granted ILR. However since my application was submitted one of my referees has been charged with a criminal offence and is awaiting trial. The case against them is weak but what happens if they get convicted and can I change the referee after submitting...

What matters is that referees should not:
Chapter 6.3.7.6 wrote:have been convicted of an imprisonable offence
during the past 10 years for which the sentence is not
spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act
1974.

Thank you for the response but it doesn't really answer the question. What happens if the referee is convicted once the application has been submitted? Will the application be rejected, will they accept a substitute referee, will we lose our money, will we have to reapply, that's what we want to know. We already know that referees should be of good character which is why we chose referees who were respectable, unfortunately one has been charged with an offence they didn't commit but they will still face a trial to prove it.

It does answer the question. It shouldn't be an issue.
