CChildren Apply British passport without ILR/Naturalisation?

One friend son was born in UK 2010. They got ILR in August 2012. After they applied British passport for his son without ILR/Naturalisation, and his son got the passport in 2 months! They saved lots of money!!!

Is it true that foreign born in UK with naturalisation can apply British passport even their parents are not settled?

cant be true accroding to what I understand from gurus in this forum..

The parents should have ILR before the kids birth for the kid to get citizenship.
otherwise it 5 yrs stay for the kid and 1 Yr on PR..

They may have issued the passport in error. If so, then it may be cancelled in the future. Should register child first.
