Hello everyone,

My husband was granted his ILR March 2015 and has been in the UK 3 and a half years.

I have just heard about new rules regarding tests to prove English language skills.

My husband completed
EMD Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International Entry 3 (CEFR: B1) this was accepted as part of his ILR. He was interviewed in Liverpool and outcome was successful.

Now my question is after 5th November 2015 will this be accepted as per new rules? I can't locate this qualification on the list of approved tests.

Can someone please clarify this for me..

Many thanks

No ESOL certification will be accepted as proof of English after November 5, 2015.

If listed as an ESOL qualification on the Ofqual website it would be accepted to support a naturalisation application before 5 November.

Thank you
It's here: http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/

You will need to check specific details from the certificate you hold.

Hello thank you for the link. I have checked the qualification and the qualification number is appearing on the Ofqual register however we have a problem our certificate was awarded by EMD but Ofqual same code qualification's awarding body is showing up as Gatehouse Awards Ltd.

What should we do? I'm confused..

See http://www.gatehouseawards.org/about-us/

Hopefully 'EMD' & 'Gatehouse' are the same organisation.
Suggest contacting Gatehouse for clarification.

Thank you very much for assisting me..
I will check with Gatehouse and check this.

I was just having a skim read through the AN Application form and In section 1.26 it asks:

1.26 Please provide details of your English language test (sat before 6 April 2015):
Awarding body:
Cambridge English
City & Guilds
Pearson
Trinity College London

There's no mention of EMD or GateHouse or Ofqual listed qualifications in the above options...

Suggest reread the form in detail.

See Q1.23 - tick option for ESOL; then skip to Q1.27.
Job done.

The best advice for your husband is to sit for another B1 English test from approval list such as Trinity London College or British councils centre. Trinity London College is easy and cheap so he cant fail it and certificate will be issue less than seven days. if your husband use any English certificate that is not among the list,i am afraid that the application might be refused so don't let him do any silly mistake. Here is the link of London college website, www.trinitycollege.com .

Good luck

Yes they are. I have done some searching and phoned Gatehouse and they states that EMD and Gatehouse are the same. EMD has been taken over by Gatehouse hence the qualification number appears the same. Do you think our certificate will be accepted on this basis, although it has EMD written on it?

Thank you

I don't know for sure. But as you have verified the connection quite easily then HO may be aware of it.

You could always add details in the 'additional information' section of the form to explain about it.
