Hi,
My husband and I have our citizenship ceremony booked for Wednesday (2-March).
I understand that I need to return the ILR-BRP after the ceremony. Is there a timeline around this? Do I need to return it within 5 days of the ceremony?
Our baby was born in January while our naturalisation applications were under consideration (we were on ILR) . I am really worried - we may now need our BRPs to apply for a passport for our newborn.

Can I keep the BRP until I get the baby's passport and then return it? PLease advise - I'm really worried !
Please help!

Apply for bhild passport for baby BEFORE you return BRP's. You can apply for a same day or 1 week fast track passport for the child.

In this case, will I not be fined as I wont be able to return the BRP within 5 days?
Is it advisable to get a written exemption in my case? If yes, can anyone please give me an email id or phone number?

You should be fine. You could have applied for the passport already, there was no need to wait.

Thanks CR001. I just thought we'd apply for the passports together. I didn't anticipate this situation at all !
I am wondering if I can postpone my ceremony for another 2 weeks and get a emergency passport for my baby? this takes a week. (same day service is not available for child first passport).
Do you know if I can postpone this close to the date?

Apply for the passport as soon as you can using 1 week fast track.
Send BRP back to HO once that is done. Fast track is very quick. You only need one parent's BRP & passport for the child passport application.

A problem is that your child's British passport
doesn't actually confer British citizenship to your UK born child. But your ILR
BRP does.

I'm saying that it
doesn't make any sense for the UKVI to demand that you destroy your ILR
BRP, when it confers British citizenship to your UK born child. Without it, in twenty years' time, say, your child may have
difficulties in proving that s/he is
British.

Vinny, do you think my baby will need to prove his claim to citizenship even after getting a passport?
