Section 6: Biometric Enrolment

I am applying for british naturalization.
on p12 of the latest Guide AN, is is stated that i am required to enrol my biometric details. Soon after it is stated "You will then be issued with an enrolment letter, instructing you t omake an appointment at a designated Post Office etc.."
Can anyone tell me if i need to go by myself to the Post office, do the biometric enrolment, put the details down on the application and send it? or
should I send my application without this and wait for the Home office to issue the "enrolment letter"?
someone should tell the Home Office to write these applications a bit more clear, it is confusing

Not sure how you managed to post in this section of the forum
The biometric enrolment is done after you submit the application. You'll get a letter from the Home Office a couple of weeks after they receive your application, inviting you to enrol biometric information, which you take to a post office. They will take your photo, finger prints and digital signature and transmit the information electronically to the Home Office.

ohara, are you sure about that? I'm a bit puzzled, as the
HO fee master doc states:
If the full fee or biometric data is not provided, then the application will be rejected as invalid. The application will not be considered and the fee will be refunded less an administration fee of £25.

Not sure how the section you quoted contradicts anything ohara explained but I can confirm what he/she said is correct.

Sure about what? You don't seem to be questioning anything I said

Hi this post is a year old but I had the same question and the replies aren't clear.
The AN form does mention of the biometric enrollment after having submitted the application.
Yet the file referring to the fees mentioned that failing to pay for Both the application and biometric as well not providing the biometric data would invalid the application.
Has anyone submitted their application without biometric data and been successful? Also did you send the payment slip with your bank details for a total cost (AN+ biometric) of 1282 + 19.20 = £ 1301.20 ?

You do not submit or pay for biometric enrollment at time of submitting form AN.
Once AN is received by UKVI (within a few weeks normally) they will send you a letter instructing you to enroll biometrics at a Post Office - the biometrics fee is paid to the Post Office. I don't see any issue here....

Thanks for your prompt response. They seriously need to amend their information sheet about the fees as it is misleading.

I think the confusion here arose because the leaflet makes it look as if the application form, the application fee and the biometric data needed to be submitted at the exact same time, else the application will be rejected as invalid.
I've understood that
- I submit the application form including the application fee pay slip
- a few weeks later I will get my biometric enrolment letter.
My question is: how much time have I got to go and do my biometric enrolment? How soon will they declare my application invalid?
The issue for me is that I have to submit my application after July 9, 2017 because that's when I returned to the UK in 2012. It has to be before July 13 however because then I will leave to go on summer holidy and when I return I will exceed the 450/480 days of absence.
I won't be back to the UK until August 7 which would be the earliest I could open my enrolment letter and book an appointment. I don't have flatmates who could check my mail.

The absence limit is only up to the date of application. Once you have submitted your application, you are free to travel and it has no effect on your absence limits.
