Hello all,

In 2018 I had opened a restaurant for 2 months in 2018 and I have failed to make money and had to close down the restaurant, after 4 years, I received a email from the council saying I have a unpaid business rate of £8K, upon calling them, they said my account has been passed over to debt collectors and they couldn't find me so account has been passed back to the council. I will sort this out but my question is,

I am in the edge of applying for the naturalisation application and I am curious if I will pass the good character requirements with this problem I mentioned.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.

Being in debt in itself is not a reason for refusal - what's important is that you comply with any arrangements, payment plans, etc. as agreed with your creditors or the court judgment (if any). CCJs need to be disclosed if you have one.

Please refer to the guidance document used by UKVI caseworkers:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... gov-uk.pdf
"Debt" is mentioned in a number of sections.
