Hi All

I recently met a guy who claimed his company has been sponsoring him through renewing his visa every year for the last 12 years. Further he claims he will be eligible for Indefinite if he continues like this for another 8 years.

It made me wonder if it was possible or he is just lying?

Normally after 5 years a person can apply ILR if the conditions have continuously been met. Better to refer your friend and you too read the tier 2 policy.

Moreover, long residence ILR is based on 10 legal and continuous years in the UK, not 20.

I recently met a girl through Shaadi.com who claimed her company has been sponsoring her through renewing her visa every year for the last 12 years, she hasn't been to her country since then and she claimed if she continues likes this for another 8 years, which will add upto 20 years, she will be eligible for Indefinite Leave to remain in the country.

Is it possible to renew your visa for that long? what would be her visa status? Do you think I will face any hurdle marrying her by UKBA? Has she been living illegally in the country?

It would be very kind of you to advice me on this.

Thank you

Recently met someone online and wanting to marry :? Not a clever idea, have you even met her? This is sounding very much like a sham, which the UKBA may also suspect.

If it's the same person, then there also appears to be some confusion about the person's gender.

I understand an arranged marriage, but an online marriage, how could you possibly know who you're talking to?

Yes Vinny, gone from a friend to a fiance too.
