ILR application submitted - can I travel abroad

Dear Moderators
I have just completed the extension of a Tier 1 Entrepreneur and have now submitted my ILR application (both for myself and my wife).
As with the current process, my passport and BRP along with other documents were given back to me when I submitted my application and biometric data last week.
Assuming the application fro ILR would take a minimum of 6 weeks to be processed.
Am I able to travel abroad whilst my application is being considered?
Furthermore, (if the answer to the previous question is yes), do I have to be back in the UK before a decision is made or am I able to enter UK with my current BRP (Tier 1 Entrepreneur)?
I submitted my application whilst I was in the UK.
Any tips guidance will be greatly appreciated.
