ILR on Ancestry visa: are original birth certificates etc. needed?

Hi all

I am in the UK on a South African passport with an Ancestry Visa. I am applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain in May. I know as part of my application I need to include evidence to prove my ancestry (grandparent's birth certificate, etc.), but I can't find any information online if they need to be originals, or if they can be photocopies/scans. I have tried Googling and also asking on Facebook groups, but I haven't had a definitive answer.

From my understanding, as I have already proved ancestry when applying for the visa, photocopies or scans of the various documents should be fine. I just want to make absolutely sure, as I am travelling home for 2 weeks on Sunday, and want to make sure to get hold of everything while I am in South Africa if necessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

No originals are sent to ho anymore. Everything is scanned and uploaded digitally. Sonic you have good clear colour copies, they should be fine.

Note though that ho can and sometimes do, ask for any originals they deem necessary to see and will write to you to post them within a short set timeframe.
