Main applicant for ILR and dependent visa extension

Hi,
I am eligible to apply for ILR in September after spending 5 years on Tier 2 visa (10 years in total with student visa as well). However, my wife who is on Tier 2 dependent visa has not reached the 5 year period yet. As I understand, I can apply for ILR while she applies for an extension to the dependent visa. My questions are as follows:
1. While applying on the website, do I first complete my ILR application and then seperately start a new application for renewal of dependent visa via Tier 2?
When I did my Tier 2 renewal 2 years ago I could do everything in one application saying there is a dependent. Since the visa categories are different would this not be possible anymore? If it is possible which application do I start with?
2. What documents are required for the ILR application and Dependent visa renewal? Do I need to show some form of financial statements etc.? Do I need a letter or something similar to COS for ILR from my employer as well?
Any help in this matter is really appreciated!
