Life in the UK test - when to take the test?

Hi,

I read somewhere that once you pass the Life in the UK Test, the certificate does not have an expiry date.

Based on this, could you take the test months or even years before your ILR application?

My wife is eligible to apply for ILR in 2 years, could she just take the test in the next few months so that its just one less thing to think about when we come around to applying?
