Apply for Tier 1 extension after visa expiry if ILR rejected

Hi Friends,
Thanks to this forum & the moderators for finding time to reply my queries.
My qualifying date of ILR application is suggested by Sushmehta just 1 day (19 dec 2011) before my Visa expiry (20 dec, 2011) based on 28 days rule. My papers work for ILR seems fine to me. Still I am worrying what will happen if my ILR will be rejected for xyz reason? I know I will get time to appeal & it might go against me in this scenario
Am I allowed to apply for Tier 1 Visa extension after date of my visa expiry on grounds of my ILR rejection? If ‘YES’ is there any limit to apply the extension after ILR rejection? If ‘NO’not do I need to apply my ILR through solicitor
Could somebody please find some time to reply my above query?
Thanks
Abhishek
