Hi, really hoping for some help and advice.
I am currently waiting for renunciation of British citizenship, its been around 2 months!
My partner and I are currently living in a non EU country.
After confirmation of renunciation we will apply for a EEA family permit for the UK.
So nervous that this won't work!
Hoping to hear from anyone who is or has been in a similar situation!
Thanks

It works! My partner has been in the UK since August on an EEAFP after I renounced British citizenship.
There is a current thread about this. See here:
http://www.immigrationboards.com/eea-ro ... 13833.html.
It is taking a bit over 2 months normally to get the renunciation certificate.

Thank you so much!
Congratulations to you for getting it! It's killing us.
Just wondering what documents you provided for the permit application?
Also we are married on Brit Passport!?
Thanks!

From the link above.
'I was born British and Irish. I renounced British citizenship in April and my civil partner applied for his family permit at the end of May with only the following:
-both our passports (my Irish one)
-my proof of renunciation
-a completed application form
-a letter from me stating that we were traveling to the UK together
-a copy of our civil partnership certificate (We were told that we didn't need to provide the original by the visa processing centre in Beijing).
I also provided a copy of the directive, from here:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... 123:EN:PDF with some parts highlighted, e.g. Article 5, Right of Entry, 2 re: visas (free/accelerated procedure) and Article 6 Right of residence for up to three months, which proves that I don't currently need to be working in the UK.'
We were also married on my British passport in the British Embassy when I was British. This doesn't matter at all.

Thank you!
You have really put my mind at ease!
I thought we would need to provide much more documentation for the application! But it seems uneessesary. Did you just put N/A when it asks about employment and money etc?
Did you also state that you would be moving to the uk?
Also not sure weather to write job seeker or unemployed on the application?
Sorry for so many questions!
Thanks

Did you also state that you would be moving to the uk? YES; SEE BELOW
Also not sure weather to write job seeker or unemployed on the application? YOU DON'T NEED TO MENTION THIS ANYWHERE ON THE EEA FP APPLICATION - I DID NOTE THAT I WANTED TO TRAVEL TO THE UK IN MY COVER LETTER THOUGH.
Sorry for so many questions!
Thanks

Hi
I was just wondering that they might question the fact I am not excercising my treaty rights? Should we say that we are visiting for 3 months or moving permanently? We will be self employed in the uk, should we mention that? I think most of our application will say NA!
Still so worried about all of this
Thanks for your help, so nice to have found someone who has been through this ordeal! How did it feel renouncing your brit cit? So frustrating waiting for that document! I've written a couple of emails to enquire about my application but no answer, hope it comes soon

You don't need to mention anything about not exercising treaty rights yet. When you enter the UK you WILL be exercising treaty rights. I'd advise you to get a job ASAP; collect a payslip and other related residence documents (e.g. TV license/bank statements etc) and apply on form EEA1 for a registration certificate. That will help with your partner's EEA2 residence card application.
I had no feeling about renouncing british citizenship as Irish people have the same right (at least at present) to live in the UK, no matter whether or not the UK is part of the EEA. British citizenship was irrelevant to me; after all it was just something that I was born with (as was Irish citizenship). I'm not very patriotic hehe. What annoyed me was having to pay to do it...
I have heard that someone's son got his renunciation cert in about 2 months. Sit tight! It should be here soon. They're not good at emails about renunciation.

Thank you
I think you have brought us luck, my renunciation document arrived today after I wrote on here!
I also have no feeling as to renouncing my citizenship as it really does just feel like a piece of paper.
We have plans to start our own business in the uk so we will become self employed asap providing we get the EEA permit!
So I have been going over the application.
What is your main purpose for going to the uk? Should we write to move?
How long do you intend on staying in the uk? Should we write indefinitely?
Im also worried how I can prove that I live abroad with my partner, there is nothing in my name!
My husband thinks im worrying too much!

We have plans to start our own business in the uk so we will become self employed asap providing we get the EEA permit! BECOMING SELF-EMPLOYED IS PERFECTLY VIABLE; HOWEVER, YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THE DOCUMENTS THAT WILL BE NEEDED WHEN APPLYING FOR AN EEA2 RESIDENCE CARD FOR THE NON-EEA CITIZEN. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THIS.
So I have been going over the application.
What is your main purpose for going to the uk? Should we write to move? TO TRAVEL TO THE UK WITH MY XXXX (YOUR CITIZENSHIP) PARTNER/HUSBAND/WIFE ETC.
How long do you intend on staying in the uk? Should we write indefinitely? I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT WE WROTE HERE TO BE HONEST (MAYBE IT WAS 'UNDECIDED') BUT I DON'T THINK THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN REJECT YOU FOR. AS LONG AS THE UK IS PART OF THE EEA YOU CAN BE THERE AS LONG AS YOU LIKE.
Im also worried how I can prove that I live abroad with my partner, there is nothing in my name! DO YOU HAVE A VISA IN YOUR PASSPORT FOR HER COUNTRY? CONTRACT FROM WORK? FLIGHT TICKETS? THIS ISN'T A BIG ISSUE ACTUALLY. YOU SAY 'PARTNER': ARE YOU MARRIED OR IN A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP OR ARE YOU DURABLE PARTNERS WHO HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 2 YEARS?
OUT OF INTEREST, WHAT'S YOUR OTHER CITIZENSHIP? (THIS DOESN'T AFFECT ANYTHING...I'M JUST CURIOUS!)
My husband thinks im worrying too much!

Really appreciate your help!
We are married and we have our certificate translated. So the permit is for my husband
My mother was born in Poland and I decided to apply for citizenship and luckily I got it! A little strange being a citizen of a country where I don't even speak the language but if it means we can be togtheter with our child in the UK then so be it.
I have a stamp showing my entry into my husbands country from march in my british passport, should I photocopy that? So I've been living outside the Uk since then.
Hope it'll be alright?!

I think the entry stamp should be enough, plus you could swipe your credit card a few times to show that you are there (or withdraw from an ATM).

Hi Chaoclive
Getting very nervous as we have our Appointment on Thursday!
I was just wondering if you put any details of having money? bank statement?Or showing how we are paying for our flight?
I put N/A on all such questions!
Is there anything in the EEA directive that mentions financial requirements are not needed?
Thanks

We put N/A for all this stuff! There's no need to show this at all but I can't find a link! Sorry...

The cover letter doesn't need to be overly complex, but you should definitely mention the law and make sure that they know you are going to travel together to the UK. Also, I would advise that you mention that you are aware of the fact that there's no need to provide financial info/bank statements etc.
We wrote 2 cover letters: one by you and the other by your partner.

Where were you applying? Which country?
It's not the embassy counter staff who make the decision. No financial evidence is needed at all. The counter staff won't know this but it's not their business. Don't worry about the passport. As long as they have seen the passport that's fine.

We're applying from Tbilisi, Georgia.
The submissions officer was extremely nosey, asking personal and uneessesary questions. They asked my husband why there was no financial evidence and he explained the law and they still suggested he must submit his bank statements! Also annoyed about the passport

anyway ......
The wait is killing me! I hope all will be alright.......
Without you I would be a nervous reck!
Thanks Chaoclive!

you have helped so much

Don't worry; just sit tight! If anything happens, you can appeal and you will be able to apply straight away if you like!
Just hold on

It is pretty shocking and amazing that you guys are being forced to renounce your British citizenship in order to be with your third country partner in Britain.

I wasn't 'forced' as such; we could have done Surinder Singh or I could have got a job above 18600 threshold...however, renouncing was quicker
Know what you mean though.
