I am a Canadian citizen, currently on a tier 5, and my partner is a french student here in London. We have been together for four years and living together for two years. I sent my application in March and originally I had only submitted proof of comprehensive insurance for my partner (with BUPA). Having read the guidelines in more detail later I realized that I should also be covered to the highest extent as per regulations so I subscribed to Freedom Health Insurance and re-sent the insurance documents to Home Office as extra evidence (both to Liverpool and Durham) with recorded delivery.

Should the application fail, I believe it will be the end of our relationship as my partner does not want to move back to Toronto due to her interest in Fashion. She wants to work in the UK for the rest of her career which I was prepared to do but of course it all depends on Home Office. Another thing, the reason we are not getting married is because I am Christian and she is Muslim, and we thought keeping things as they were would be the best option for our kids later on as we do live in a modern society that accepts unmarried partnerships.

My question is do you guys think this is enough? Should I try contacting them again? Should I resend the insurance documents again? I have not heard back from them since I did my bio metrics back in April but I am extremely worried that the application will be refused because originally I had only sent comprehensive insurance for the qualified student and not myself. The documents I sent where:

> Proof of cohabitation for two years
> Details of our trips together (Canada, France and Turkey)
> Photographs for the entire relationship period with different people in different countries
> Ownership of our American Cocker Spaniel, Washington (and pics with him as well)
> Proof of study and proof of CSI
> Identification
> Proof of full time work since I came to the UK (in the Business Intelligence sector)

When did you do this and what period was it for? As health insurance obviously cannot be applied retrospectively.

I did it starting immediately, and it covers me for the next year at least. So starting in May and ongoing coverage. Is this a problem? My partners insurance covers her on a year by year basis as well.
I applied for the EEA-EFM Residence Card (5 years).

The application will also depend on demonstrating you have a durable relationship 'akin to marriage'.

But if you cross-referenced the application and the extra information makes it into the bundle before its assessed it may be acceptable.

Thank you for getting back to me. Do you think the information I provided is enough to demonstrate a relationship akin to marriage? Mainly cohabitation, trips, photographs and ownership of a three year old dog (in both our names).

Appreciate your help.

Yes I read that is a requirement, but also that cohabitation and other "evidence" could be enough depending on the case. Does ownership of a pet not mean much? We bought him and raised him together, and he is in both our names. I am just asking because in Canada this is considered as proof of strong relationship.

The application form and guidance do not say that you have to show proof that you have private health insurance, if your partner is a student with an EHIC. You only need to provide her EHIC.

Worth noting that forms and guidance are not necessarily a full statement of the relevant law and requirements.

And EEA(EFM) Q14.10 asks about CSI / family members.
