Request Passport.

I applied for an eea efm residency card on July 24th. Can I just request just my partners passport back? I am not in a rush to get mine. She however wants hers back to apply for her settled status and our sons UK passport. I do not want the HO to use the prepaid envelope I provided though. I prefer they use that for when making a decision and for the rest of the documents I provided. Can they send her passport a different way and can I request just her passport alone?
