Which requirements for translations of official documents?

Post by gilbutre » Wed Apr 02, 2014 10:16 am

Hi,

In the application for a permanent residence card from my non-EEA wife, we need to include an English translation of our marriage certificate.

But I can't find whether there are requirements for such translation. For example, should it carry some certification or something? Can anybody make this translation, for it to be accepted by the Home Office? If not, who can?

Any registered or professional translator or the embassy, would be accepted.

If cannot do the translation yourself as this would not be acceptable.

Thanks CR001. But how do I prove that the translator is registered? Should I add a sheet of paper that mentions his/her registration number?

I think that they have to stamp and sign the translation if you use a registered translation service. best might be to try the embassy or marriage registrar.

HO requirement is reliable translation . do not try to translate by yourself . there are so many good translation companies they can do certified translation and that will be fine for home office.
You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.

Sure but that doesn't tell me which particular certification the translation should carry.

This thread from 2013 might help with your query. Bear in mind that whoever you use to translate, the HO should able to indepently verify the translation.
