Name change after approval of Naturalisation

Post by z4ydi » Fri Aug 29, 2014 12:32 pm

Hi Everyone
My wife just received her approval for naturalization. My wife wants to change her name (surname), before booking the ceremony we wanted to know whether we should change our name before the ceremoney so that the new name can be printed on the naturalisation certificate or is it best to change our name after the ceremony and not worry about the new name being printed on the certificate. Please shed some light on this if you can.
Thanks

The certificate is not printed at the ceremony. Once approved, it is printed and SENT to the council to complete the date you attend the ceremony.

She can change her name by deed poll after she receives her certificate and before she applies for her passport.

Thanks for your reply. So you are saying that the certificate will not be printed in the new name, as it is printed after the approval which we already received?
And this leaves us with only the option of changing the name after she receives her certificate. Does this mean that once we received the certificate in the old name she can then send it back to home office with the proof of name change for the new name to be printed on the certificate and re-issued?

Can you please direct me in a bit more details as to what documents would she need for change of name, can she do it herself or do we have to go through a solicitor, is it a long process or a simple short one.

Thanks

What, if any so far, process has she followed to change her name and what official documentation and from where does she have?

Google "Deed Poll", full details and explanation on how to change a change.
