Work permit to HSMP (In Country Application)

Post by mepals » Sat Sep 08, 2007 8:37 pm

Hi

I have a question on the following situation. If a person is working in UK on a work permit and gets HSMP approved and passport stamped, does he need to inform his current employer that he has now got the HSMP. I am assuming that the person is continuing with the same employer for sometime while searching for a new job. Do the present employer/client needs to update their records? Can he/she continue working for the present employer without informing them? Any legal implications?

Thanks.

It would be better to sit on HSMP and apply for EC only if you get a job. A lot of Indian IT companies do not pay tax on the allowance paid to associates in the UK. That I think is facilitted by the WP they have filed for you. If you get an EC on HSMP, then you are not on WP filed by your organization and the situation may become tricky if part of your income(allowance) is tax free.

If you pay tax on all of your UK income, then you may not have any issue switching to EC-HSMP.
