Visa documents for second marriage

Post by waleedm » Sun Jan 11, 2015 12:12 am

Hi,

I have been previously been married overseas and I brought my wife to the UK in 2011 on a dependent visa under my Tier1 General work visa. We have long been separated and we have made our divorce overseas in 2012. My previous wife is not resident in the UK.

I am getting married soon and I currently hold British citizenship. My question is regarding the application requirements for her dependent visa:
  • Do i need to produce any documents of the previous marriage/divorce? I currently have foreign marriage/divorce documents in my language which are translated in English. A friend of mine thinks that i need to declare the divorce in the UK, and then supply that document with the visa application.
  • Since i did not declare my marriage in the UK (I don't know if i ever need to declare marriage anyway), will this be a problem if i try to declare my divorce?
thanks for help.

if your divorce was acquired according to the rules set in your home country, it should be carpeted here in UK.

secondly your second marriage can ONLY be considered valid in UK, if it took place after the previous divorce was finalised.
