Upcoming Rise of Income Threshold?

Hi!

I heard off a friend that the income threshold for spouse visa, and resultantly FLR M,would be rising to 20000 soon. I was pleased that the minimum wage increase in April would require me to work less hours.

He said no the threshold is rising to 20 000. So you'll still be working longer hours.

Any truth to this! Any links to sources about these proposals and dates when they would be effective?

He is probably getting confused with the 5 years tier 1 work permit earnings announcement.

You appear to be using 'anti-venom' in the wrong context in your posts. I believe you mean 'sarcasm'. Members will find it confusing separating fact from sarcasm, so better just to post helpful advice please. When you have it to give.

An ex Lib-Dem minister (anybody remember them???) had said in 2013 that the Tories wanted to set the earnings threshold for getting a spouse from outside the UK to £40,000, but that the Lib Dems forced it down to £18,600. Now that the Tories have a majority of their own and the Lib-Dems have been rewarded with a thrashing for having been in government...

Based on past form (and not on any hearing), I would expect the earnings threshold to be indexed to the rate of inflation every year. At worse, it could be like the triple lock on pensions; earnings growth, inflation or 2.5%, whichever is highest. But this statement is pure conjecture and not a prediction.

As regards the request for the Tory party manifesto, Google is surprisingly efficient at online search and revealed the link below;

It does not mention the earnings threshold at all. There is of course mention of improving the required standard of English, but that is broadly it as regards non-EU immigration.

We need to get our immigrants from somewhere and I don't think there many countries left in Europe to join EU except for Turkey, and the way anti muslim sentiments are being encouraged I don't see it happening anytime soon. I don't think that you can stop people getting married overseas and if you do then I think some people may end up moving abroad, which would be counterproductive. For people who cannot meet the requirements the only options are to get divorced, move abroad or to live apart and only see each other occasionally. I don't think that any of these options serves the public interest. Discouraging people from claiming benefits and setting the amount so that they are not eligible for any benefits is one thing, but a figure of £40,000 would be quite a different matter.
