What is your current nationality?
Why do you wish to move to the UK?
Do you have any UK born grandparents? Also, can you claim any other European nationality? Some, such as Italian and Polish nationality allow an infinite number of generations abroad to claim citizenship.
What are you studying? And are you planning to work in that field?

It's a tough one, there are no quick/easy options.

Main routes are study or work or marriage.
As a US citizen study would prove expensive.
For work you would need a sponsor.
The marriage route poses its own challenges.

If under 30 and Canadian you could shoot for this mobility visa for a 2 years taste of UK life:
https://www.gov.uk/tier-5-youth-mobility/overview

If a 'religious worker' there is another route, but again a licensed sponsor is needed:

(this is a 2-year visa, there are others in this category too)
All that is gold does not glitter; Not all those who wander are lost. E&OE.

Which members of your family are in the UK? And what is their status in the UK (which visas are they on)?

Do you have Mexican or Ibero-American citizenship as well? It seems that Spain allows expedited citizenship for people born with Ibero-American citizenship. After getting Spanish citizenship, you can come and settle in the UK, as an EEA citizen.

The UK has made it much harder to get foreign workers to work in nursing, but hospital chief executives are campaigning to get more foreign workers in nursing due to a shortage in the UK. So, you may be in luck.

Do you have a degree or appropriate qualification in nursing from an American university or professional body? Or are you studying in that field?

BTW, how old are you?

I was told it'd be easier to get a visa for a pharmacist
