Can retain Spanish residency card together with UK one?

Post by jtb0 » Wed Feb 24, 2016 9:01 pm

If a person has a residency card (EEA family member) in Spain can they apply for a UK family permit and proceed to a UK residency card and keep the Spanish residency card? Would Spain and the UK communicate with each other about this? Is anything put into your passport when you get an EU residency card?

Yes why not, that's what free movement is all about.

Obviously Spanish card will lapse in time if you stay in UK.
(Continuity of reaidence can be lost after 6 months, except in exceptional circumstances).

And yes, there are intra-EU databanks for various purposes so there can be crosschecks.
What's your concern about that?

If someone has an application with the Spanish authorities for a residency card would it be a concern to UK Immigration?

Can't think why.
Residency is not citizenship &, even in terms of citizenship, UK is all for dual-nationality.

btw - nothing has to be written or stamped in your passport for the authorities to notice & question you. (What a quaint idea).

This is 21st century - when travelling you can always expect to be monitored and run through various 'systems';
there will always be various crosschecks & verifications made on you.
