Money has still not been taken out of my account, nor have I got a confirmation letter or email.

Interestingly enough, I got a UKVI immigration survey email today -- hope it's not a bad sign! When I got my PR I got the survey email after a decision has been made, so I hope they haven't just rejected my application straight away for some reason.
